low key orchestra. Mehr Understatement in einem Bandnamen geht nicht. Der wirklich unpassendste – und damit passendste – Name wurde da von Sönke Torpus für etwas gefunden, das, ohne übertreiben zu wollen, musikalisch wirklich Großartiges birgt.

Aber erstmal kurz von vorne. low key orchestra ist das neue Bandprojekt des eben genannten. Allen Indie-Folk-Connaisseuren unter uns wird seine ehemalige Band Torpus & the Art Directors ein Begriff bzw. in guter Erinnerung sein und die Freude ins Gesicht geschrieben stehen, dass nun neue Musik vor der Tür der Lieblingslieder steht.

„maybe words“ hieß der erste von mehreren low key orchestra Songs, die dieses Jahr veröffentlicht werden und es ist schlichtweg ein wundervolles Lied. Sönke ist eine kleine Hymne für all jene gelungen, die eine ausgestreckte Hand oder ein offenes Ohr benötigen. Als hätte er sich gedacht: „Wenn ich nicht in deiner Nähe sein kann, dann bekommst du immerhin einen Refrain, der mehr Trost spendet als 1000 Umarmungen.”

Aus jeder Zeile spricht aufrichtiges Mitgefühl. Zusammen mit dem Produzenten Helgi Helgasson hat Sönke es geschafft, einen unausweichbaren Text in warme und facettenreiche Musik zu übersetzen. Soundtechnisch schwebt das low key orchestra – vor allem hierzulande - sehr eigenständig in einer Klang- und Gefühlswelt, die von Bands wie Bright Eyes, Whitney und den Flaming Lips geprägt wurde. Im Songwriting hingegen fnden sich Parallelen zu frühen Alben von Coldplay oder Keane. Sönke sagt über sich selbst, er habe die Musik für eine lange Zeit verloren. Zu unserem Glück hat er sie – oder vielleicht auch sie ihn – wiederentdeckt. Im Oktober geht das low key orchestra zum ersten Mal in voller Bandbesetzung auf Tour.

Susi Wittig aka Like Mint hat Poesie im Sinn: Die Wahl-Berlinerin aus dem Erzgebirge trägt ihre Songs durch das Land, deren feine Wahrhaftigkeit ganze Räume zum Schweben bringt. Es ist eine sanfte, aufrichtige Melancholie, die diese Lieder zwischen Indie-Folk und Songwriter-Innigkeit so anrührend macht – Like Mint reiht sich ein in die neue Sensibilität von Sängerinnen wie Lucy Rose, Phoebe Bridgers und Billie Marten und steht auf den Schultern von Indie-Riesen wie Bon Iver, Suan Stevens oder José Gonzales. Live wird all das erlebbar – in der Begegnung mit dem Publikum entsteht so eine Konversation, die Platz für den Zuhörer lässt, mit wundervollen Liedern, die Like Mint in einer tollen Balance zwischen offenherzigem Gefühl und bezaubernder Verschwiegenheit singt.

Die Melancholie ist nicht tieftraurig, sondern irgendwie erfrischend, deshalb der Name.

The sound? Bantu Soul—music by people, for people—coined by bandleader and songwriter Batila, whose Congolese roots and deep love for Rumba Congolaise anchor this rich and spiritual sonic journey.

Morena Leraba is the stage name of Teboho Mochaoa, a musician and shepherd from Lesotho who blends traditional Sesotho Famo music with global sounds to create a hypnotic, genre-defying style. With electrifying live performances, acclaimed collaborations (Major Lazer, Damon Albarn’s Africa Express, BLK JKS), and his 2023 debut record Fela sa Ha Mojela, he has become an internationally celebrated voice. Rooted in the mountains of Lesotho yet shaped by the energy of Johannesburg, Leraba’s music carries stories of migration, resilience, and spiritual calling — a powerful fusion of past and present, rural and urban, local and global.

DJ: Calamidades Lola is a record hunter and dj/selector born and raised in Barranquilla, a city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia with a powerful culture of celebration and where music is a sure path to joy and liberation. 

She grew up surrounded by massive and colorful ‘picó’ sound systems that made the whole barrio vibrate with African and Caribbean rhythms. She currently lives in Berlin and much of her sound is influenced by her musical roots and her migratory experience.

Up & Out, das sind nicht nur vier mega geile Musiker*innen die gemeinsam vor sich hindudeln. Nein! Up&Out ist eine Band bei der die Songs im Mittelpunkt stehen und die sich vor allem nicht in eine enge Genreschublade stecken lassen will. 
Die 2022 gegründete Band präsentiert am 10.10 ihre neue LP die sie pure-analoge, also ohne Verwendung von Computern, in den Emil Berliner Studios auf Tonband augenommen hat.

Up & Out  isn't just four awesome musicians thumping along together. No! Up&Out is a band that focuses on the songs and, above all, refuses to be pigeonholed into a narrow genre. Founded in 2022, the band will present their new LP on October 10th, which they recorded pure analog, i.e., without the use of computers, on tape at Emil Berliner Studios.

Aktion : Fiasko nennt sich das Elektropunk-Duo aus Berlin & Erfurt, welches Ende 2019 mit
Produzent Sebastian Schleinitz (u. a. Full Contact69, Proleturan) und Frontfrau Franzi Berlina seine
Anfänge fand. Das deutschsprachige Projekt lässt sich wohl am ehesten mit den Worten "kritisch,
rotzig & anders" beschreiben, da es sich schwer in eine musikalische Schublade stecken lässt.
Elektronischer Punk im weiteren Sinn mit einer Symbiose aus Punk, Elektro, NDW und mehr oder
auch Elektro mit Berliner Schnauze.
Mehrere Live-Auftritte fanden seit 2022 u. a. auf dem Fourscher Festival in Erfurt, Blasphemous
Beats in Hamburg sowie in Naumburg, Hannover, dem Mountain Stomp in Freiberg, dem Dark
Affair in Leipzig sowie dem EBM Familientreffen in Sandersleben statt.

VOID QUEEN

Founded in March 2024 in Berlin, Void Queen has quickly become one of the names to watch. Vilte (vocals), Tobe (guitar), and Merlin (drums) blend post-rock, dark wave, and 70s punk into a sound that’s dark, intense, and impossible to ignore. Heavy riffs, deep grooves, and vocals that stay with you long after the show is over—that’s the deal.

Their first two singles, “Suga” and “Seventeen”, hit hard with clear melodies and powerful arrangements. Perfectly built for the stage, they’ve already sold out Badehaus earlier this year and landed spins on Radio Fritz. Word is, there’s more coming soon.

Live, Void Queen delivers an atmosphere thick with tension and energy. The stage is dark, the spotlight hits, and when Vilte screams “Suga”, the place explodes. Merlin’s steady drumming and Tobe’s sharp riffs pull it all together. It’s raw, it’s real, and you’ll feel every second of it.

Void Queen doesn’t rush. Every track, every show is built to pull you deeper. And right now? Something big is on the horizon for 2025.

• Mossaï Mossaï 

Making noise often means reproducing a certain number of stereotypes, testosterone-fueled and not always lavish in feelings. Renewing the forms, deconstructing the prerequisites are all requirements, at a time when rock is in full transformation. After a first EP in 2019, very assertive in a psychedelic aesthetic, Jean-Loup, Marie, Tanguy and Philémon, the four members of Mossaï Mossaï, took the time to give birth to this "Faces". Time to see the margins of their music expand, especially on stage where the group quickly made a name for itself with its performances. Like the Psychotic Monks, Slift or their neighbors from the Loire the Stuffed Foxes, leaders of a French rock scene in full effervescence, Mossaï Mossaï dive into the unknown to find something new, draw on the experiences of their ancestors to better inspect new spaces to conquer, to celebrate.

• Kenoma

Jazzcore crossover trio based in Berlin. Their music thrives on improvisation, moving fluidly between intricate compositions and spontaneous exploration, shaping dynamic and wide-ranging soundscapes.

Aysanabee (Ace-in-abbey) is a two-time JUNO award-winning alternative indie artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer-songwriter. He is Oji-Cree from the Sucker Clan of Sandy Lake First Nation, a remote fly-in community in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. Now based in Toronto, he began creating music under his family name when moments of stillness allowed him to slow down and create music that more accurately represents himself as an artist. With a swirling mix of rock, soul, and electronic sounds and pulse-quickening fingerpicking, Aysanabee’s music is both anthemic and cathartic. His style has drawn comparisons to Bon Iver, Matt Corby, Hozier, The Black Pumas, Kings of Leon and more. 

In March 2024, Aysanabee made history as the first Indigenous artist to win JUNO Awards for both Alternative Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for his EP Here and Now (October 2023). The EP’s hit single, "Somebody Else," peaked at #3 on the MediaBase Alternative Chart. The Here and Now tour saw him embarking on two cross-Canada tours alongside Dan Mangan and Allison Russell.

Deltawelle sind zurück – mit einer neuen Single und der vermutlich 
entspanntesten Sinnkrise des Jahres. „Superhappiness" erscheint am 8. 
August auf allen Streaming-Plattformen – inklusive Musikvideo, das den 
urbanen Alltag durch eine träumerische Linse betrachtet. 
Deltawelle liefern mit „Superhappiness" einen subtilen Sommer-Ohrwurm über 
das Nicht-Müssen, das Sich-Treibenlassen und die Frage, ob Zufriedenheit nicht 
manchmal genau dann auftaucht, wenn man gerade nichts sucht. 
Der Song klingt wie ein Spaziergang durch die Großstadt mit Kopfhörern, 
leichtem Schwips und null Terminen. 
Textlich geht's um Zufriedenheit, Alkorythmen (ja, mit o), und die zeitlose 
Fragestellung: Muss Glück immer geplant sein? Kann man einfach nur im Moment 
sein? Die Antwort liegt vielleicht in den Wellenbewegungen des Lebens - wie die 
Enten, die "tauchen ab und dann wieder auf". 
„Superhappiness" ist ein sommerlicher Soundtrack, der irgendwo zwischen 
Parkbank-Philosophie, Ententalk und existenzieller Tiefenentspannung pendelt. 
Leicht schräg, sehr ehrlich, ein bisschen hypnotisch – eben ganz Deltawelle.

 LILLY WOOD & THE PRICK FEIERN COMEBACK MIT NEUER SINGLE „SWEAR“

Spätestens seit dem Robin Schulz-Remix ihres Songs „Prayer in C“ (über 1 Milliarde Streams) sind Lilly Wood & The Prick eine festen Größe in der Popmusik und touren seit 2006 um die Welt.

Mit der neuen Single „Swear„ feiert das französische Duo jetzt sein Comeback und gibt einen ersten Einblick in ihr kommendes Album, das von Myd produziert wurde. Der Song ist ein Versprechen, zu denen zu stehen, die wir lieben – eine verletzliche und gleichzeitig kraftvolle Hymne. Starke Gitarrenriffs, Y2K-Synthesizer und ultra-poppige Melodien vereinen sich zu einem coolen Mix.
