Shilpa Ray is a wailing, fire breathing Cyclops. She tornadoes everything in her path: small towns, big cities, and children’s dreams. One of her fans commented on a YouTube video, “If there’s a heaven, I want God to hire Shilpa Ray to sing the list of my sins.” Within a few hours, she had a day job working for Saint Peter. Ray has ripped off all the greats—The Gun Club, Tom Waits, The Doors— and recently pulled off a triple rip: ripping off Nina Simone ripping off Screamin’ Jay Hawkins ripping off the Devil.

Shilpa Ray released her album 'Teenage and Torture' in 2011 on Knitting Factory Records and found her biggest fan in Nick Cave, who started telling music journalists she was his favorite current band. Cave brought her on tour as support for a few 'Grinderman' dates, recorded the Wiel/Brecht song “Pirate Jenny” with her for Hal Wilner’s 'Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys II', and then hired her to sing backup on his Spring 2013 'Bad Seeds' tour as well as main support for their Fall 2013 UK and Europe tour in order to promote her 4-song EP 'It’s All Self Fellatio' -- released on Cave's record label Bad Seed LTD. She has also served as main support for Man Man and Acid Mother’s Temple as well as the opening act for Elvis Costello, Patti Smith, and A Place to Bury Strangers.

LSD – Liebe Statt Drogen ist eine der bekanntesten Lesebühnen Berlins. Jeden Dienstagabend gestalten die 5 Mitglieder von LSD und eingeladene Gäste im Berliner Schokoladen ein Programm aus neuen Texten und Songs. Gegründet 1996 besteht LSD heute aus den Mitgliedern Andreas „Spider“ Krenzke, Tobias „Tube“ Herre, Uli Hannemann, Eva Mirasol und Ivo Lotion. Alle 5 genannten Künstler sind als Autoren und Musiker auch in anderen Bereichen aktiv.

LSD bietet jeden 1. & 3. Dienstag ein Offenes Mikro für Menschen an, die spontan etwas vortragen wollen. Beachtet bitte, dass der Beitrag selbstverfasst sein muss und nicht länger als 6 Minuten dauert. Wer am Offenen Mikro liest, braucht keinen Eintritt zahlen und bekommt ein Freigetränk.

LEATHERETTE are Andrea, Francesco, Jacopo, Marco and Michele. Formed in 2018, they are based in Bologna, Italy. Their name comes from the iconic single Warm Leatherette by The Normal. Leatherette almost sounds like a mockery of rock music and its aesthetics, simultaneously embraced and rejected, shredded. Their music is a potpourri of punk outbursts, jazz atmospheres and hints of no wave, generating a rich and composite sound, sometimes warm and welcoming, sometimes harsh, scratchy and unpredictable.

In 2021 they released Mixed Waste (WWNBB), a self-produced EP, followed by intense live activity throughout Italy (MiAmi, Beaches Brew), Europe and the UK.  In 2022 they signed to Bronson Recordings, and released their first LP, “Fiesta”, a disruptive album (Up To Hear). A car-crash of jagged noise, twisted love and dark, angsty melody, it was very well received by the local press (Noise, Blow-Up, MTV) and international press (The New Cue, NME), while Iggy Pop himself played their track “Dead Well” on his BBC Radio 6 show. They also released two videos for the songs “So Long” and “Thin Ice”. In spring 2023 they embarked on a European tour that saw them play in Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium and the UK. Back in Italy, they continued the tour in the country by going down to Sicily and Apulia, then playing again in Valtellina and again in Switzerland. During the summer they participated in Italian festivals (LARS ROCK FESTIVAL, Apolide festival, Lowl festival), they opened for Shame during the SEI Festival 2023 in Corigliano d’Otranto. During 2023 Iggy Pop played three singles from the Fiesta album (Dead Well, So Long, Come Clean) on his radio show on BBC Radio 6 music.

They released their second LP, (Small Talk) in November 2023 via Bronson Recordings. Recorded by Andrea Cola and Bruno Dorella, mixed by Chris Fullard (Idles) and mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering. Distributed by Virgin Music Italy/Universal Music Group. In the autumn they took part in the M:WM festival in Berlin and the Linecheck festival in Milan. They released the video clip for the single ‘The Ugliest’ on VEVO. After the release of “Small Talk” they appeared in major Italian and international newspapers: “La Repubblica, Il manifesto, Internazionale, Rolling Stone”. They were listed in the NME as one of the ten new releases to be discovered during the 2024 edition of Eurosonic Festival, in Groningen. They will also play at the 2024 MENT Festival in Ljubljana in February.

3 South & Banana is the musical moniker of Berlin-based, France (Nice)-born singer, songwriter, musician and producer Aurélien Bernard. Aurélien previously played in the psychedelic pop troup Cairobi. He also has been performing as a Blue Man in the Blue Man Group for the last 15 years. 3 South & Banana championed on BBC 6 Music Lauren Laverne, Gideon Coe and Don Letts.

Velvet Two Stripes  (Garage/ Blues-Rock/ Riot Grrrl Punkrock | CH)

Vielleicht sollten wir Jack White dafür danken, dass er den Geist des Blues Rock während der letzten 15 Jahre ins gegenwärtige Zeitalter gebracht hat und somit die Bedeutung einer der ältesten Rockmusik-Genres übermittelt hat. White hat den Weg für Bands wie The Kills, Yeah Yeah Yeahs und Deap Vally geebnet. Alle von ihnen mit charismatischen Frauen ganz vorne, die den Mix aus Garage, Blues, Fuzz Rock und Riot Grrrl Punk zelebrieren. Ein Gebiet, auf dem kürzlich eine aufregende neue Band ihren rostigen Van abgestellt hat: Velvet Two Stripes.

Endlich eine europäische Band, bereit, mit den Großen der Szene zu konkurrieren, die Jungs in ihrer Garage herauszufordern und dabei zu beweisen, dass junge Frauen sehr wohl ein Gespür für echten Blues haben. Ihr aktuelles Album "No Spell For Moving Water" erscheint am 6. Oktober 2023 und wurde in Vancouver, WA aufgenommen. Für den passenden Klang sind zwei Koryphäen der Rockszene verantwortlich: Vance Powell (Mixing, u.a. The White Stripes, Buddy Guy) und Pete Lyman (Mastering, u.a. Tom Waits, Weezer). 

Wie geht's weiter? Immer voran, immer in Bewegung bleiben, verbündet zu dritt. Sophie, Sara und Franca sagen: „Die Musik bleibt das Wichtigste. Wir müssen keinen Trends entsprechen, wir müssen niemandem gefallen, nur uns selbst.“

CISTERN is a rock band from Squamish, BC on the unceded land of the Squamish Nation. The restless souls that make up Cistern, a tight-knit gang of four, are comprised of Noah Varley, Noah Wilson, McKinley Languedoc, and Chris Boys. Cistern play rock music like the best bands formed at the periphery: raw, scrappy, intuitive – a group of friends forging awe and anguish into song. As Ursula Le Guin wrote in her Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction, “it’s a strange realism for a strange reality.”

The bands most recent release is New Standard. Languedoc stumbled upon a different tuning, jokingly rebranding it as “new standard tuning“, and somehow, the gag stuck. On “Crisis”, the band tries to make sense of the tangle of personalities. “Metal Detector” unravels as a hymn for those who have chosen to march to their own peculiar beat. “Pendulum” is high-wire, jittery and tense, a song about seeking balance in a world that won’t let you achieve it. The record is a 5 track display of DIY-rock anthem recorded on an 8 track tape machine.

Cistern is a band defined by tight musicianship, harmonious and dissonant instrumentation, do-it-yourself recording and experimentation. With the band already wading knee-deep into the musical chapter that will follow, expect more saturated, tape-warmth dance riffs to come.”

Combining the creative values of Wilco, Sonic Youth and Sparklehorse with the immediacy of The Velvet Underground and The Clash. Eades have adapted and evolved over the last couple of years - continually touring around the UK, as well as over the shores into Europe. Finely poised between indie rock and alternative 90’s.
