With the use of computer beats and sequencers their sound becomes even more electronic with the aim directly for the dancefloor. The synthetic sound world is stylishly interwoven by their pleasant Lo-Fi attitude of singing and their minimalistic guitar riffs. Music references to the sounds of DFA, New Order, Young Marble Giants, B-52's, Krautpop ... are chosen on purpose. They were just far enough from Helsinki to draw from its emerging synthpop scene while simultaneously reworking it into something completely their own. Coming from very different ends of the musical spectrum, the band was unlikely pairing. Tapio was classically trained and experienced as a church cantor. MAtti was a jazz musician fascinated by analogue synths. But both were rapt with the idea of music as healing: as an artistic form of therapy. Meeting for the first time at a concert, their shared love of music forged a friendship. <br> <br> Both boys had a strong desire to create something new. They sat down behind their instruments and the music began to flow, transforming them into their beastly alter egos. The moniker Zebra and Snake was born. In Schokoladen May 28th he will be performing for the first time an evening of all Cover-songs from Radiohead to Rhianna Scott Matthew was born in Queensland, Australia and now lives in New York. He was a member of the band Elva Snow, which he founded with ex-Morrissey drummer Spencer Corbin. Das Demotape und die Single haben schon einige Wellen geschlagen. Erste Assoziationen sind Blumfeld (ganz frühe) und Fehlfarben (die erste). Manche fühlen sich durch den Gesang auch erinnert an Rio Reiser. Kann man sich bestimmt drüber streiten. Manchmal schimmert durch: die Kolossale Jugend. Aber, wie sagt man: hinten hat der Fuchs die Eier. Messer sind spröde, klirrig, rätselhaft, versplittert. Trotzdem rollt die Platte ungemein. Die Beats sind zackig, der Bass treibt kompromisslos die Herde vor sich her. Melodisch, aber vor allem tight. Die Gitarre scheint sich aber immer wieder höhnisch zu entziehen, in luftige Delay- und Geräusch-Wabereien. Und da merkt man, dass das andere Standbein Messers ganz woanders, nun ja, steht, als „nur“ im (deutschen) Post-Punk der 80er/90er: Neu! oder Can findet man hier genauso. A stint working in a fruit and veg market brought about the perfect moniker for the musician, when his Polish counterparts dubbed him Mr. Robotnik (Polish for worker). The word struck a chord. Morrin liked what it represented - an insatiable appetite for one's labour. Possessed, unhinged and strikingly original, Robotnik channels a more furious Beck, a more sporadic Mark Linkous and through a frenzied mix of lyrical lullabyes and unforgettable live shows, has become one of the rare wonders of the Irish music scene. The buzz around Robotnik's debut album, 2008's 'Pleasant Square', soon scored the young Dubliner support slots with Crystal Castles and Laura Marling, and the video for the single 'People Walk Away' was quickly snapped up by MTV2 in the UK.
